[Lore Proposal - Trash] The Watchers - LuckyLeaf - 03-06-2014 The Watchers
"For there will come a time, when Lucin, Xitian, and Mesalian alike will wish to know of a time before their age of harmony." They are called the Watchers. Nobody knows where they are. Some people say they live high in the mountains, higher than any man could dare to climb. Others, say that they live deep under, beneath the soil and rock, lower than any man could hope to dig. The learned argue that they are a myth, a legend, a fabrication of the lay man. Others still, believe they are real, and are alive to this day. People speak of great libraries, larger than anyone can imagine, hidden away somewhere in the land. Nobody has ever found them, and only whispers of rumors occasionally haunt the cities and towns. Many curious adventurers have left their homes and spent years upon years searching for such a library, for it has been said that once you have reached it, you will be rewarded greatly. Alas, they have never been found, and the men that left their homes young and full of passion, returned old and fruitless. Legends and hearsay alike say that it was the Seven Sages that entrusted these people with the task of recording the history of all the Realms, to jot down in paper and at times, stone, the unraveling story of the three races. They are said to have been gifted with the power of farsight, that allows them to see all that happens in the land, and have bodies so in tune with nature herself that they require no sustenance to stay alive. Or so ‘legends’, say. The Watchers, a fitting name I suppose, but I do wonder sometimes if we haven’t made ourselves sound all too ominous. I am Helios the historian, perhaps one of the very few among us that are, how to say this, a medium, so to speak, between us, and everyone else. You see, we aren’t hermits. We know history, and its value, but we also are very much aware that history is not meant to be forgotten, but to be learnt, so that every mistake can be rectified, and every achievement further improved. I, and a few others, have been entrusted with the task of showing the world our works. So that we could remain still a secret, but be able to teach man, about himself. We publish our books; their contents carefully nitpicked and filtered so that the public may know only what they need to know. We do not want for people to take advantage of certain information that may cause grief on another. It is our responsibility to ensure that does not happen. The number of books out there that we have written is a very, very small portion of what we have amassed. A mere kernel, you might say, in a whole field of corn. If someone was to have access to them and if that someone sought them out for his illdoings, the amount of damage he could do with that kind of knowledge would be unimaginable. For those reasons most of us have never even seen the Great Library. Oh yes, it exists, have done for a long while, although I couldn’t tell you where you would find it, for I have no clue myself as to its whereabouts. But I can say for sure that it isn’t somewhere where you could blunder into it. My best guess is that it is in the Forbidden Lands, somewhere deep within, although with all the settlements popping up here and there, they may have moved to a different location already. Ah, I haven’t told you about the inner workings of our little group have I? An old mind tends to be forgetful. We have a hierarchy, of a sort. We have the elders, the oldest and the wisest of us that oversee the rest of the group and instruct us. Some of them are in the Great Library itself, some of them are here, living among us. Some of them are in the cities, some of them are in the mountains. I would suppose they are what most people imagine when they think of us. Wizened and wise, with a white long beard that falls to their toes. Then there’s us, the squires. As the word goes, we are the shield bearers of the group. We come from every and any profession. Some of us are trained in the way of the sword, while others, like myself, prefer brains to brawns. We have a variety of roles. There are some of us that accompany and caretake the elders, while there are others that provide for the whole group, then there are others that go and collect history. They are sent all over the world, wherever man has settled, even to different Realms I heard, and they linger, and collect with their own eyes and ears the story of that region. In such a manner we have confirmed the existence of many a towns and villages that have been very elusive, like the village of Linedia, high up a mountain valley covered by a dense fog. It was one of my most difficult expeditions but one of my favorite as well. Such a jovial bunch they are. But yes, those that are chosen are sent off to various places in the land. And what are the qualifications you ask? Very simple! One only needs to have a burning passion and a sense of duty, and a mouth that does not blabber. For those reasons we are prohibited from drinking, but well, it’s a small sacrifice. One could be Xitian, Lucin, Mesalian, or even a Luxit, if he so wishes, or well, survives. Those that are interested in the history of man most often go into apprenticeship under the elders, at the time they only think of it as a scholarly endeavor, but once the elder so chooses, a student of his can be chosen to be let into the group and become one of us. And well, while it is true that it hasn’t been a flawless system, for there have been mistakes, the accusing of those misguided students have only added a ripple, in the vast lake of rumors. So that is the answer to that question you have never asked and yet always had in your mind since the start of this lecture. You might say: Why am I telling you all this? Well my dear students remember this: When an old man talks, he could be speaking with wisdom, or he could be simply delusional. Good day to you all. RE: [Lore Proposal - Ready for Review] The Watchers - SentaiPink - 06-06-2014 Hey Young. I am once more going to look over your lore application. Unfortunately this one conflicts heavily with established and current lore goings on. The sages are still alive. They and their apprentices do exactly what the watchers seem listed to do here. They observe and record knowlage as they were tasked to do by Salazar. Almost the entirety here of what you proposed is currently being fulfilled by the sages (and then some as they also have intimate knowlage of the elements and guard the realms.). I am sorry about that, but sadly the majority of this lore can't be accepted because there's no way the Sages would of formed a redundant group and it seems even less likly they'd let one thrive under their noses. This is not a peice of lore your expected to know, as it's not released and the storyline involving this information never came to fruition. So that is my largest issue with this lore. There are a few things in the time line and history that are confusing or I'm not entirely sure they work, but given the above issue I thought that most of all needed addressed before anything else. If you want more information on the sages send me a PM or Skype. RE: [Lore Proposal - Pending] The Watchers - LuckyLeaf - 06-06-2014 RE: [Lore Proposal - Pending] The Watchers - SentaiPink - 06-06-2014 Sorry again. I'll go ahead and archive this for you. |
