Estelle Karalis - ccspycrab - 25-10-2013
Name: Estelle
Age: 10
Race: Xitian
Gender: Female
Appearance: Dark Red eyes with long black hair much like her mother. She stands four feet tall currently wearing a blue dress with a light jacket over it.
Personality: Estelle is typically mellow (timid to an extent) and cheerful. If she gets excited about something she can become very energetic, a sharp contrast from her typical mellowness. In general she is hard to anger. She has trouble speaking up when something bothers her, and blames herself when things she is involved with go wrong. She remains a little ashamed of her powers. She is honest, not willing to lie and loyal to her friends and family.
Background:
(0-3 years old)
Estelle was born in the winter months in the healing clinic of Ravenna, a small town in the forbidden lands, unable to leave the clinic until the snow dissipated. Her early interactions were limited to her parents and whoever visited the clinic, who more often were too busy to interact with such a young child. After winter ended her family moved into the inn although she didn’t have many children around her, often spending entire days with only her family. Her father was adamant on teaching her to respect others, which made her dislike talking to adults in chance she would disrespect them, so she often kept quiet around them unless she was comfortable around them.

Estelle started to make friends with a few other children that were around, Lapis and Bishop. She typically went outside of her normal shell with them. They even had their own fort to play in away from the adults. At this time her brother also came back from his travels giving her someone else to play with who she considered ‘not adults’.
Her mother, Zarkaylia, started teaching Lapis and Estelle self-defense at a young age. Estelle learned a lot from her mother about her warrior traits, such as honor and loyalty. Estelle followed in her mothers teaching, not willing to lie to others.
Estelle started developing her powers around 4 also, although her parents told her to keep them hidden from others. They told her about a ‘Bad Man’ in town who she needed to avoid, and not using her powers would help that. She was still taught how to control and use them by her Father, but in secrecy. She often felt a little ashamed of having the powers, and even as she grows older she still doesn’t like using them in public places.
Estelle started learning how to read and write in both common speak and xitian. Her father being the only on fluent in xitian taught her that side, while both of her parents split the common speak teachings. She still has trouble writing in xitian compared to common.
She was willing to do a lot to keep her friends because she was normally used to spending most of her time with her parents, Lapis specifically could goad her to do a lot of things. Lapis convinced Estelle to go into a dark ruins with her despite her slight fear of the dark. Estelle actually enjoyed it for a little seeing such an unknown place was exciting, but that enjoyment was quickly ended when a dusk creature attacked both of them. Estelle bolted out faster then her mind could process, forgetting her own friend was behind her.
When she made it out of the ruins, she realized Lapis was still down there, and quickly went to get help from someone. Luckily her mother was at the inn at the time and in tears of panic Estelle explained what happened to Zarkaylia and with Estelle guiding them down, they got the injured Lapis out of the ruins. Estelle was punished somewhat harshly for going in the ruins, she couldn’t leave the inn without her parents and couldn’t play with any of her friends. She accepted her punishment without an argument because She felt like it was her fault that Lapis got hurt in the ruin, and for a while she was nothing but bored at the inn, bored at the farm with her father, or continuing training with her Mother.

Estelle continued playing with her normal friends, although her brother, Thomas, became very busy so she mainly played with Lapis and sometimes a younger child Jie. Though bad news was on the horizon for her, as Lapis’s parents came back to take Lapis and Bishop with them. Estelle was torn to hear the news of her best friend going to leave, and couldn’t understand why her parents would do it. Nonetheless, on Estelle’s tenth birthday Lapis left from the docks.
Before she left though, Silver (a xitian who was usually rather reclusive) and Dusken (A local jeweler and mother of Jie) gave both Lapis and Estelle pendants with a different crystal in each. As happy as the gift made her, with Lapis leaving at the same time, she couldn’t show her happiness as well she wanted to.
With Lapis and Bishop gone, Thomas so busy, and Jie being so young, Estelle no longer had anyone to really play with. She often sought for something to do, but her father didn’t give her work on the farm because she wasn’t old enough to do the work in his mind.
Estelle was out for a walk when she got caught in the rain, she ran to the closest building which was the inn to get out of it, although she was already soaked enough to weaken her and make her shiver. Silver was there to help warm her up and she couldn’t have said thank you any more times than she did. While she was drying up, they talked about the present Silver and Dusken gave her, which led to a discussion about runes. Estelle was curious, asking to see one work. Silver obliged, using a home rune to teleport them to one of the inn rooms. Seeing the new surroundings excited her, to the point where she was almost jumping while talking to Silver. She ran home to rave to her parents about how runes were ‘magic’ and amazing.
Here we are now, Estelle looking for something to keep herself occupied while she doesn’t have too many friends to play with, and new interest being sparked by a demonstration.
Skills:
Novice: Self Defense - Understands situations which could be dangerous, knowing what do do if they end up in situation, most involving getting help if possible. She is still learning ways of actual self-defense, although her age prevents her from doing much physical training.
Interests:
Farming - Her father takes her out to the farm a lot while he works. Although she hasn’t been helping all that much, with the right influence she could be interested in learning more.
Runes - After the present from Dusken and Silver and the demonstration of a home rune owned by silver, she has been curious of what they are, and with the right influence she could be interested in learning more.

Hi Spy! You know this song and dance. So, let's begin!

Even though she's young there isn't a lot of personality to her. Don't be afraid to add depth, flaws, and challenges to the character! Just because she's 10 doesn't mean she's not a fully developed person, who's rapidly developing into a pre-teen and an adult. What's written in her personality section isn't reflected in her backstory.
2.
The backstory reads like a list of RP events. You need more input into Estelle's feelings on what happens, what the aftermath of the events with her parents were, just more information on who Estelle is as a person, and how she gets along with her family and friends. I just feel like there is a lot missing and I have no idea who this character is.

Re-vamped the story, minor personality description changes, although I'm not sure what I should specifically put down for that, if you have an idea of what personality trait items I would need, that would be helpful.

Hey spy, ok this is what I am running into, I had the same problem with Lapis. If you look at this application without any knowledge of the setting you have no idea who this is or who any of the names dropped in the application mean. Try to write her application as if this isn't a setting everyone is already acquainted with.
The other remaining issue is that she has no character flaws which gives the idea there isn't much to her character. Try to expand on her personality flaws, they have to be there somewhere, you even mentioned a shyness in the backstory that isn't listed, so try and work on that, I can't really give anymore help in that regard.

Updated again. Made the flaws more clear, as the backstory didn't demonstrate it enough. I also added more interactions with her family, as well as more personal feelings she has had during major events.
