Question: Can the concept of a paper lantern be scaled up?
Basic Information: Paper lanterns are lightweight, but trap in the heat of a small tea light. The heat then rises and lifts the paper lantern upwards.
Hypothesis: If enough heat can be produced, then the weight can be increased, possibly enough to carry the weight of a person.
Experiment 1: Created a series of different paper lanterns. Basic concept is sound. Square shape and pyramid shape worked for the most part the same as the classical round shape. Pyramid was less stable in the air, and the Square nearly tipped sideways at times. It seems the round shape helps air flow around it.
Result: Will stick to Round shapes for future experiments.
Experiment 2: Had Zaira Karalis (Fire Xitian) try and control the position of the fire to alter the course of the paper lantern. Proved to be ineffective.
Result: Fire detached from wick, incinerated lantern.
Experiment 3: Had Zaira Karalis (Fire Xitian) increase the heat output of the fire inside a lantern. Saw rapid ascension. upwards.
Result: Heat output directly affects altitude increase.
Experiment 4: Constructed four lanterns, and cobbled them together into one entity.
Result: It seems that though on their own they are capable of upward movement, the larger amalgamation was unable to. It did see a reduction in drop speed

Question: Is it possible to replicate the controlled and slowed fall of the flying squirrel on a scale in line with a person.
Basic Information: Flying squirrels have a thin skin webbing between their front and hind legs, and when they choose, spreading their limbs in four directions creates a larger surface area, allowing slowed falling, and controlled descent. Need further information. Must seek out zoologist.
Hypothesis: With proper surface area, and a material that allows minimal air to pass through, a person of average size and height should be able to slow their falling, and control the direction they wish to travel.
Experiment 1A: Using a kite with a 2 square foot surface area, and attached a small sack of sand weighing approximately five pounds to the center of the kite.
Result: Kite still flies with added weight, albeit a bit harder to get into the air.
Experiment 1B: Using a kite with a 2 square foot surface area, and attached a small sack of sand weighing approximately 10 pounds to the center of the kite.
Result: Kite still flies with added weight, albeit very hard to get into the air.
Experiment 1C: Using a kite with a 2 square foot surface area, and attached a small sack of sand weighing approximately 15 pounds to the center of the kite
Result: Kite flew in air for roughly 1 second before the wind caused it to buckle at the location of the weight, and came crashing down. Will have to replace kite, and sand sack.
Experiment 2: Attempted to construct a wooden skeleton that would attach behind someone's back. In practice, the webbing fabric would be connected to the skeleton, thus allowing the person the desired effects. First prototype was made with basic window and door hinges, and proved to be too inflexible.
Results: Prototype 1 fractured and broke at the left knee. Too rigid for humanoid movement. Will attempt with better joints, and more flexible wood.

ProtoType 12:

3rd Ring: Runic Wire, 2 Runic Torch
Result: A very slight heat output. Tested it for three hours while being active. No effect.

Prototype 19:
Core: Topaz
1st Ring: Runic Wire, 6 Lapis
2nd Ring: Silver Wire
3rd Ring: Runic Wire, 6 Runic Torch
4th Ring: Runic Wire, 3 Lapis
Result: A higher heat output. Tested it for three hours while being active. No effect

Thanks! ^_^ And for now, I welcome any comments people might have. I'd also like to propose some new Rune inventions.. gonna work on that when life is less chaos.
