NAME: Corelian Republic
LOCATION: Forbidden Lands
CAPITAL: Corelia
RULING: The Senate of Corelia
YEAR OF FOUNDATION: 49AV
HISTORY:
The dishevelled state of the Middle Realm after the Veld War encouraged refugees to flee the Mainland and seek to settle in the Forbidden Land continent across the sea. One can only speculate on how many undertook this dangerous journey and an unknown number of these refugees perished in those unforgiving and dangerous lands or were lost at sea in their attempt to travel there.
The settlement of Corelia was founded by [TBA] around the years 0-2 AV. The nature of these times and the disaster a few years later, unfortunately, leaves the exact time a mystery. It is however well known that [TBA] remained a benefactor and mayor of the town for some time before others took the role as mayor. Whether [TBA] moved on from the town or perished remains untold.
The earliest days of Corelia are easiest summarized as a struggle for survival and a struggle with rivalling settlements. Documents recovered from the ruins of libraries in the region depict a state of near-war with a rogue group calling themselves "Wanderers", underhanded dealings with a nearby settlement called New Springs, and mentions of several prominent persons and mysterious events in the area. As is to be expected, a multitude of losses is also recorded within the entirety of the region during these early years.
During these early days, there were no Corelian Region, as there has been in later years. It is believed that until roughly 5-7 AV, the area that today has turned into the first country of the Forbidden Land held up to as much as 7-8 different large settlements. Some of them rivals. Books that have been recovered detail at least three that suffered catastrophic ends well before the region went silent.
The sudden silence remain a mystery still to these times. Old sailors speak of the entire coastline, forests, mountains, and the ghost town of Corelia all engulfed in an ominous bright blue glow, or fog. Remains were found of people that had instantly perished where they stood, the whole region seems to have gotten stuck in time with their deaths.
The few surviving witnesses that have emerged in later years share a few common points in their stories. A sudden earthquake and a blue flash. This correlates well with what sailors claim to have seen from the sea at the same time and date. However, it remains a strange mystery that several of these witnesses that were in the region claim they next moment woke up somewhere unknown, beneath a giant floating crystal. Mass hysteria and hallucination have been among the multiple theories around this event.
