THE LORE OF MESALIA
AUTHORS' NOTES
Please note that I'm not the only author of the lore. Feel free to add/change/suggest stuff.
On the term 'Mesalia'.
I've noticed recently that a lot of applications and what not have referred to places as 'Mesalia'. I realise this is probably because of the misleading name of the server, so I thought I'd clarify here. 'Mesalia' is not an IC term. It's not a realm, or a land, or a continent. It's an OOC term which refers to the entire IC universe (as in the Celestial Realm, the Dusk Realm, the Middle Realm, the Aether, Nether and Void Realms) all of these are in the world of Mesalia, a universe separate to ours. 'Mesalia' isn't an IC word. If it was, then following that logic we'd have 'Lucia' and 'Xitia', which is rubbish. Our characters live in the FORBIDDEN LANDS, which is north-east of the MAIN CONTINENT, and both of these places are in the MIDDLE REALM, which is a dimension in the universe known OOCly as MESALIA.
On the Seven Sages.
There is a lot of general misconception surrounding the Seven Sages, and I hope this will clarify for you all: When I wrote of the Seven Sages, I thought 'Sage' was more of a position, or a title. The Seven Sages are essentially a secret (or not so secret) order founded by Salazar, which closely followed the ruling and wishes of Salazar. Even after his death, they have tried to uphold his traditions and beliefs.
What I'm getting at here is: the people who are the Sages aren't immortal. They don't live over thousands of years. They die. They also have successors, who they train and select during their time as a Sage. But Sages don't reveal their identity as a Sage until there's crisis. This is how the Sages are mentioned in the Age of Beginnings through until the Age of Rebirth. Yes, this does mean that a Sage can go through their entire life without actually revealing they are a Sage. It also means the Sages still exist today. Who they are, and where they are remains a mystery, both IC and OOC.
Generally, the Sages at the very least know the names of the other Sages, but circumstances can change things. Members of staff, if you wish to create a Sage, do tell the other staff. This way we ensure there aren't two Sages for the same element. Remember, there is one sage for each element: they may be Xitian, Lucin, or half. The Seventh Sage has knowledge of all the elements, but doesn't necessarily control them all.
