Dragons
They arrived first to the Dusk Realm, though we never did work out why. Then the Celestial Realm found themselves in a similar situation not long after the Xitians managed to deliver their warning. We weren’t concerned at first. Our arrogance lead us to initially believe this may be justice for all the wrongs against our people. The first dragon in our Realm erupted with tremors and a terrifying roar. The first we encountered breathed fire and death upon villages. The armies standing ready to keep the Xitians at bay at the Portal into our Realm found themselves scrambling to fight the colossal beast as it’d erupted not far from their station.
They learned quickly its scaley hide was tough, so much so that arrows and bolts from common weapons could only find purchase in the wings of the great beast. Bringing it down out of the sky was the first step, but defeating it was a harrowing event, lives were lost. It became clear no lone man or woman could ever stand against these beasts.
Though we struggled, we destroyed the beast. With it dead we resolved to stand united against the monsters and began to call them by the name the Xitians first gave to them: Dragons. As more of the dragons clawed their way from their obsidian laden nests, the strange lanky dusk creatures known as dark walkers (Endermen) were noticed to linger around these places, it was then that we learned this particular type of dusk was the only one found across all the Realms. Thankfully, the majority of the Mainlands were spared the destructive power of these creatures. As both the dusk and the dragons were only found in the areas closest to the Portals.
As more dragons rose the more we struggled to adapt to fight and survive in the face of such power. Sadly, the Dragon of the Dusk realm and that of the Celestial were not only resistant to their respective elements but they seemed to only grow stronger when it was utiliazed against them. We were lucky enough to have not one, but six different varieties of horror visited upon us. Sadly, the Forbidden Lands lived up to its namesake and saw no boundaries on where the creatures would rise from, the whole continent is at the dragons' mercy.
We will persevere in the face of these dragons just as we have against every force that has pressed us to action. But we must do so united, relying not only on ourselves, but even the Xitian and Lucin people as well.
Known Varieties of Dragons
There are six known types of dragons in the Middle Realm. The dragons are classified by the element they wield, which can be easily determined by their differences in appearance. All of the known dragons have been identified as male. These dragons range in height from 3-4 meters (9-13 feet) tall when standing on all fours. Their length varies greatly from 4 meters (9 feet) to well over 6 meters (20 feet) in length or wingspan. The creatures are all very large but not necessarily hostile. Its obvious the dragons view sheep, cows, pigs, wolves and at times people as food. While this often result in attacking settlements, towns, and cities, the dragons are beasts like any other, with survival instincts and needs. They’re fiercely territorial of their obsidian dens, and while dangerous, it doesn’t take a dragon long to learn humans are harder food to eat then their livestock.--{ Nether Dragon }--

Alternate Name(s): Dusk Dragon, Undead Dragon, Dragon Skeleton, Naataq
Element: Nether
Ability: Exudes Nether, which causes grass and plants to die or become corrupted around it after some time. It also causes Nether clumping and dusk spawn to appear around it as well. Can freely manipulate Nether in same way as Xitians.
Flight: Limited, can glide short distances.
Habitat: Mushroom Forest, Dark Oak Forests, Areas around Nether Gates
Combat:
This Dragon’s boney exterior is resistant to cuts, slashes and arrows. The most effective weapons against it are heavy, bludgeoning, or blunt weapons to break apart the bones. The raw sinue that holds the creature together is more vulnerable to cutting weapons and arrows, but its speed makes aiming for it nearly impossible. The horns on the Nether Dragon’s head, its teeth, claws, and the blade at the end of it’s tail seem all but indestructible and razor sharp. This is one of the lightest dragons making it deceptively quick, the dusk that swarming around it make combat with it difficult and dodgy. Its Nether is deadly to Lucins. Of all the dragons this one seems inclined to hunt for sport once enraged. Though in its lust for blood it becomes easier to corner, out maneuver, and kill.

--{ Aether Dragon }--
![[Image: ARIJc7c.jpg]](http://i.imgur.com/ARIJc7c.jpg)
Alternate Name(s): Light Dragon, Life Dragon, Umatz
Element: Aether
Ability: Exudes Aether, plants grow around its feet. Can sometimes cause animals exposed to it to fight for it.
Flight: Yes. Uniquely capable of flight without wings.
Habitat: Mountain Tops, Floating Islands
Combat:
Aether Dragons are difficult to find and unlikely to bother with people of any race. They generally avoid humans, cities and towns, and keep to remote mountains and floating islands. Aether dragons can walk and run in the air, making it capable of flight, but far more slowly than the other dragons. When fighting the Aether Dragon the energy it gives off can be empowering, but also deadly to Xitians. However, simpler animals such as hunting dogs, wild animals, and mounts, may turn against anyone unwise enough to challenge the beast after enough exposure to its Aether. While the Aether Dragon has its razor sharp claws, leathery hide, and massive horns, it seldom fights for itself. When it does, it condenses Aether into powerful balls that have a much more damaging effect then the energetic buzz it gives off naturally. This type of dragon seems to have no desire to kill or fight outside of survival. As a result, it will allow attackers to retreat so long as its done swiftly.

--{ Fire Dragon }--
![[Image: hkl3NNu.jpg]](http://i.imgur.com/hkl3NNu.jpg)
Alternate Name(s): Ash Dragon, Votan
Element: Fire
Ability: Breaths fire, can freely manipulate fire.
Flight: Yes
Habitat: Deserts, Volcanoes, Savannah
Combat:
The Fire Dragon has the claws, horns, leathery skin and teeth all common to most varieties of dragons. In addition to that it also has sharp webbed spines along it’s back and tail that are more than capable of skewering a man. Its wingspan is nothing shy of intimidating, but the webbing of it’s wings are the weakest section of the dragon's hide. These parts can be punctured with arrows and bolts to bring it down to the ground. But close combat may be even more dangerous as it not only spews fire from its mouth but it manipulates the burning energy into a sort of fire storm. This type of dragon is hostile, and incredibly protective of its territory. The Fire Dragon is more than willing to start forest fires and leave a path of devastation when challenged or when its territory is invaded.

--{ Air Dragon }--
![[Image: l6VCivR.jpg]](http://i.imgur.com/l6VCivR.jpg)
Alternate Name(s): Feathered Dragon, Floating Dragon, Sky Serpent, Kukulcan
Element: Air
Ability: Can freely manipulate air.
Flight: Yes
Habitat: Plains, Jungles
Combat:
The Air Dragon is formidable in a different way. Unlike most dragons it’s an ambush predator. Anything that comes into its territory is fair game. It only hunts when threatened or hungry but it will hunt anything. It moves swiftly and can be very pacient with its prey. It will use its air abilities to mask the sound of it moving right up until it’s too late. The Air Dragon also has a distinct call, which is more melodic than other dragons. It can be shot out of the sky, and when cornered without the ability to stalk and rip its prey into the air it unleashes torrents of raging wind, ranging from cutting waves to a sort of geyser that could throw a full grown man skyward.

--{ Earth Dragon }--
![[Image: hDnbOet.jpg]](http://i.imgur.com/hDnbOet.jpg)
Alternate Name(s): Rock Dragon, Ground Shaker, Inyan
Element: Earth
Ability: Can freely manipulate the earth and stone.
Flight: No
Habitat: Caves, Cliffs, Hills
Combat:
Earth Dragons spend the majority of their time underground, when it does venture out to hunt it will burrow a path to its prey underground so as to make a return trip easier. Earth Dragons navigates its tunnels by smell, for everyone else, the tunnels are a deadly labyrinth that the Earth Dragon can use to trap or crush unwary travelers. Earth Dragons often set traps for prey by leaving sections of soft dirt that lead into the tunnels. The Dragon tries to avoid leaving the safety of its stone shelter as much as possible. If it does venture out it still is a massive and armored beast with hard, nearly indestructible plates one its back and legs. The softest section of leather on this dragon is the only section vulnerable to harm and that’s it’s underbelly. But fighting it is compounded by its free manipulation of stone and earth, it will make earthquakes, hurl boulders and cause sinkholes to stop attacks, but unless it’s hungry it generally doesn’t kill.

--{ Water Dragon }--
![[Image: xmRraeH.jpg]](http://i.imgur.com/xmRraeH.jpg)
Alternate Name(s): Sea Serpent, Bemola
Element: Water
Ability: Can freely manipulate water and ice.
Flight: No
Habitat: Rivers, Lakes, Oceans
Combat:
Nearly as hard to find as the Aether dragon, Water Dragons spend their lives underwater in oceans and rivers feeding off of fish and marine life. They have few conflicts with humans unless its feeding area is invaded by fishermen. These types of conflicts are often resolved quickly as the Water Dragon can not only coil around small ships to crush and break them apart but it can manipulate the water to rise up and swallow the ship and crew. Anything in the water is fair game for the dragon and it will often eat fishermen to ensure they do not return. The Water Dragon usually roosts in seaside caves or underwater caves, and these caves are the few times the beast is out of the water. On land its slinky body is awkward and less than agile, but remains able to throw shards of ice and waves of water freely to defend itself.

Origins of the dragon species
This is background information, it is not relevant or known IC.
Dragons originate in the Void between Realms. The mother of all dragons has resided there for millennia, perhaps even from the time of Salazar. The dragon of the Void is referred to as the Mother dragon as that is where the egg clutches originate from. The mother dragon feasted on the energies leaked into the Void from the destruction of the Gates and the appearance of Nether Gates. So much so that she was able to send her minions between them. The minions of the mother dragon are known as darkmen or dark walkers (Endermen). The dark walkers took the dragon mother's eggs to all of the Realms, where they roosted and fed off the natural energies of their respective Realms and areas they were deposited. The dark walkers tend to the dragon’s roost by finding or building obsidian caves for the dragon welps to live in. The welps remain safely underground for about 40 years before they reach maturity. In that time they feed off the innate energy of the area around them. Dragons reach maturity when the natural energies that make up the Realms are no longer sufficient to sustain them. It’s at this point the dragons escape their roosts and go to the surface to feed on other things, such as livestock, animals, plants, and occasionaly people.
