The real Illyana
#1
As a few may know, I was looking into getting my own Chinchilla, which, thanks to Zarklesparkles became Illyana in Arkon's backstory. Now I have finally, after much deliberation, and a whole lot of money being spent, acquired a little floofball.

He isn't quite the same as Illyana but he is very cute, and I've named him Sihmandhri, or 'Dhri for short. He's currently settling into his new home, exploring and chewing everything he can. I've taken a few pictures, but nothing properly yet, I don't want to disturb him too much as he settles in.

I'll be updating this as much as I can, with pictures of the silly cuddlefluff, for any who want to b'aww at his cutes.

So Dhri's had a few days to settle in. He's still somewhat uncomfortable with people in his 'space' inside the cage. Although he does sometimes like treats, and is a bit more sociable on the upper level, for some reason. He's started getting time out of the cage, which he seems to enjoy, and I'm varying his play space each time, so he has to go and learn his area again before he can start shooting off and bouncing on walls and such, which he does with sometimes worrying ferocity, although he knows what he's doing. He looks forward to his playtime now, and knows how to indicate he wants out, climbing on a ledge on his door and waiting patiently like a good boy.

His first playtime out. I managed to catch him sitting still for a second. Difficult to catch him on the move, ever. He's so very, very fast.

Another moment of rest. He likes sitting under his cage. However we also found that he likes bouncing off the back wall and then squishing himself between the wall and cage and climbing his way up. While this isn't inherently unsafe for him, if he gets to the top, its a 6ft drop, and he'd probably break a bone or two, so I've padded the back with cardboard as you can see. He wasn't that pleased with me.

Also, don't mind the amount of droppings about. He's a poop machine, and likes to kick them out of his cage from time to time, as well as doing more during his playtime. I try to sweep up after him, but its a futile effort.

Also, after some encouragement, he's learnt the enjoyment of scratches. Due to the way they are, Chinchillas aren't that fond of  stroking (At least a lot of it) they much prefer scratching under their chin, behind their ears and between/around their front paws. Dhri seems to prefer the latter the most, as he's taken to either sitting as he is above, and waiting to be scratched, or hopping over and sitting up, resting his paws on my hand if he can.

Like so.

I have a few more pictures, but due to his tendency to never want to sit still, and a fairly poor auto focus/shakey hands they're rather poor/blurry. He's still rather skittish, and he's given me a few brief heart attacks with just how eager/jumpy he can be, but he is definitely getting better, and although its likely going to be months before he's really comfortable with me, these rather big steps in such a small space of time is super good!

Hope you enjoy the cutes as much as I do.
