How did you find us? (Forums, friend, previous member, etc…) Reddit, an /r/Roleplay post from a while ago.
About You: 18 year old Brit, rather familier with roleplay though not via Minecraft. I'm quite the fan of comedy, though really only on this side of the pond.
Age: 32
Gender: Male
Appearance: A pale and rather unfit figure, he was lanky whilst standing at 6'2. His dark hair was short yet connected with his long, somewhat well-kept, moustache.
Personality: Almost the antithesis of hard-working, Gerald prefers to make himself busy with drink or other shenanigans than actually practice medicine under normal circumstance. He is constantly lying, although he believes in most of the medicine he practices wholeheartedly, he has no belief what so ever in astrology and simply uses it as an excuse to postpone treatment whilst getting payed more for less.
Backstory:
During his youth and the peacetime generally, Gerald apprenticed under his father (to whom he was a bastard son) in the field of medicine. Due to his father's extensive attentiveness to work at all hours Gerald was mostly left to himself when not spectating or operating, he'd stick to studying astrology and the practice of medicine on most occasions, though would go out to pull tricks on the naive lot in the local village pub when the mood struck him (he suspects now that many of them were simply humouring him).
Although purges did occur in and around his village, he was too young to remember this in any significant capactity other than that he is certain he never met anyone who wasn't a Mesalian in his youth, or after it for that matter.
The following civil war was practically a blessing on the Babcock family, their village was remote enough that neither side had reason to claim it so injured travellers and locals were becoming considerably more common. As the amount of potential patrons escalated Gerald began a more practical apprenticeship under his father in order to somewhat even the workload for a time. In this period he found out that the astrology side of his work was utter nonsense as he began outright making up and switching parts without any patient noticing or any change in effectiveness.
Gerald's father remained in good health throughout most of his life, so retained the bulk of the work despite his son's maturity and capability. He was good natured enough to not hold this against his him, perhaps thinking of it as some sort of divine penance for future sin or misjudging it as a reflection of his poor parenting. Although he was certainly less dedicated, Gerald was as good a surgeon as his father and perhaps a better apothecary.
After the civil war he'd become rather bored of his small village; with news of a dusk portal resurgance he knew the cons would soon outweigh the advantages. Although partially grateful for his father's tutelage despite his unpure birth, Gerald left for the nearest port town with due haste and just enough coin to hire passage on a ship to the Forbidden Lands.
Capabilities: Advanced medicine, basic persuasion, competent herbalism.
Items: A satchel of reasonable size, the contents of which being: several books on both astrology and medicine as well as diagrams, an almanac of star charts, two bottles of distilled liquor and several small implements ranging from knives for blood letting to those for the pinching and removal of waxed arrow heads.
