Backstory:
Airwalk Umbrage was born as an only child in a forest near a port city, known as Brimhaven. His family line, the Umbrages, have toiled through the slavery of the Xitians by learning stealth techniques. He was born during the time of peace, when the only threat was other Mesalians. In his teen years, he learned from his father how to climb trees to avoid being seen, stepping quiet to avoid being heard, and even how to survive off of scarce food. Airwalk enjoyed learning for his father and he always strived to learn more.
As a young child, Airwalk was always curious about the world and often stared and certain things wondering how they worked. He would look at how tall the trees grew, how fast the bugs flew, and other miraculous things. He would always be thinking, leading to the point where he would hardly talk to anyone and when he did, his conversations were erratic often jumping from one subject to another.
At around the age of 14, Airwalk started to help his father more as he was now old enough to much hader labor. His father would often send him to pick up fallen branches and other materials to keep a fire going. Airwalk loved these outings as he got to see much more than his usual home. He would stride around looking at all the different plants and small animals that normally didn't come near people. On these outings he would carry a simple walking stick to lean on prod at things so he wouldn't have to get too close. When he returned with enough wood, his father would have him pick apples from the trees for selling at Brimhaven. His father gave him more and more chores until the day was done and Airwalk, exhausted of course, would sleep outside. He stared at the stars and wondered what else was out in the world. Around this time, Airwalk's father decided it was also time for him to learn self defense in case of an emergency as well as a way to hunt animals. Airwalk learned how to use his walking stick as a weapon as it was not only one that would always have at hand, but also a weapon that would take only a little time to learn. Airwalk quickly reached the point where he could hunt animals with his walking stick and after a few months of practicing, he could even fight off duskspawn with it. Feeling proud, Airwalk's father made him a much better walking stick made from white oak. He fire-hardened allowing it to be able to take a medium strength sword strike. His new staff was about 6 feet in length and 3 centimeters in diameter, weighing enough to knock someone out, but also light enough to carry.
When Airwalk grew to be 16, he wanted to see Brimhaven to see what other Mesalians were like. With his parent's permission he took his father's food pack, full of food of course, and walked about 5 miles before getting to his destination. What was nothing short of life changing experience, he saw happy faces of all the people in the city as they laughed, talked, and told each other stories. He saw hard workers building beautiful ships and creating cozy houses. He wasn't there for just sightseeing of course, he had to sell some of the apples he had brought and some bread as well. When all work was done, he decided to converse with the happy people that lived here and he learned that their lives weren't dominated by a constant want to be unseen but rather to be seen and accepted by others. Airwalk found himself happy amongst these people and we wished that he could be more like them but alas his work left little time for him to talk and he had to get home before the day was done. Just as he was leaving, a bunch of armed warriors burst into the city and attacked knocking over food stands and burning houses. The Brimhaven guards jumped into action and fought the warriors off with some ease but there was still damage done. He would make a trip like this often and he enjoyed it, but sometimes more warriors would attack Brimhaven and he would slip back into the forrest unnoticed.
When Airwalk turned 18, Mesalians were now fighting each other like never before. The Umbrages would hear news of more fighting in Brimhaven and they would start to fear of when the fighting would come to them. In order to avoid getting involved, the Umbrage family line tried to be nomadic, and this worked for some time. They would hide in the trees quietly as angry Mesalians would pass by underneath and continue moving later, but even so, the battle crazed Mesalians found many of them, mistaking them for the ones of Brimhaven, and killed them, including Airwalk's father. Airwalk grieved his father shortly as they were still in danger and he had promised he would keep the rest of the family safe. After this, Airwalk kept his family on the move in order to avoid being caught by the Mesalians. Even after his promise, the rest of Airwalk's family line fell one by one over the next few years whether it be by diseases caused by wounds or wounds from the Mesalians themselves until at last only he was left. Airwalk's hope had been completely destroyed and he sat in the forest for many days crying and mourning over his deceased family. Airwalk didn't understand how crume other Mesalians must be to cause him such pain and sorrow. He bowed to himself that moment that he would do all that he could to prevent this kind of pain from happening to anyone he knew. Airwalk knew had to preserve himself to carry on the family legacy so, he would take a path no other Umbrage had taken before,he would go back to civilization. With nothing but his cloak, his clothes, and his father's food sack, Airwalk traveled to Brimhaven.
Once Airwalk arrived, he noticed the now hostile looks on most of the people's faces, others bore fear. He knew that the hostile looks meant that he wasn't wanted there, and the fearful ones meant the he shouldn't be there. Airwalk had no never seen such a sight and wasn't planning in staying in the city. He had different plan in mind. He had heard of people fleeing to the Forbidden Lands for refuge and he would go there also by sneaking onto one of the leaving ships...
