Over the years, Thomas has gone through quite a few changes. The once lying, untrustworthy, and corrosive young boy has aged into a kind, polite, and helpful young man. Thanks to the people around him, especially his foster mother Zarkaylia, Thomas has become a traditional peacemaker. He fights for what he believes to be the right thing and is willing to help those in need. He will forgive those who may have defied him so long as the crime was not too serious. Thomas is also willing to hear a plea for forgiveness and analyse it. After all, one thing that has never left Thomas was his wit. The young man is intelligent in the sense of the city rather than education. Thomas knows how to follow a thieves footsteps, for he was one once. He is not tricked easily and often knows how to find a way out of a sticky situation. This knowledge carries in his fighting as well, for Thomas is more likely to use his surroundings to gain an upper hand. Such as hiding in the shadows for a time to strike, or counter attack an opponents predictable movements. Thomas is not one to just charge straight on. Even when Thomas becomes furious with rage, he can usually keep it controlled and remain calm to avoid unwanted panic. The man has known how to keep his emotions in check so that he may not show fear, anger, or sadness. However this often leads to Thomas not expressing his true thoughts to others if he feels down. Someone would have to see past his calm gaze in order to know if he is enraged or sad. Thomas also brings with him a confidence that radiates. Even if he is not sure what the outcome may be, Thomas can show that he knows his instincts are right.
As for Thomas's shortcomings, he will often wish to attack those who commit injustice to others. Those who manipulate and cheat will instantly be on his bad side. This is especially true if any of these actions harm his family. It seems that Thomas has picked up the rage from his foster mother to destroy anyone who dares to hurt his family. Thomas will plot out whoever this person is, find the best way possible to trap them, then attack. Once more, Thomas can act a bit too serious and shut out strangers or those who are not close enough to him. Only family members can really reach his real thoughts at this point, or very close friends. Thomas' calculating mind also has the instant thought to judge those who come off as threats. If someone presents them self as shady or harmful, Thomas will be more careful around them and take notes on their movements. Finally, due to a fearful experience Thomas had back in Auria, he has grown to both despise and fear giant spiders. He has seen what the beasts can do and will often slice them instantly. The patter of their feet makes his skin crawl and causes Thomas to shiver. All of this gets him on edge. Too many spiders may cause Thomas to just freeze up in fear; a rare sight for a usually brave and confident man.
Thomas usually walks with a bit of swagger to him. He usually wears a smirk when he walks about. Thomas will show his true self now and not hide his quick wit nor intelligence. Thomas would now walk around with more confidence and more like a guard than a sticky fingered thief.

Backstory, RP story, and return story
The story of a young city boy who was born in the loving arms of his parents to shield him from the corrupted streets and life style of Provensia. Thomas Rartho has been in far too much in his child hood to date, and considerably lost what it means to be a child at the age of eight.
Thomas and his family were commoners among the Provensian slums and blocks. The family, like any commoners, was a poor bunch due to the government taxing and attempting to prevent thieves and con artist from robbing what little gold they had. While living with his origonal parents, Robert and Maria Rartho, Thomas never saw the outside world around him. His parents sheltered him in order to prevent criminals, The Martillo Family, and even neighbors from knowing about their son. They loved Thomas, but never wanted him to be exposed to things that could very well ruin what it meant to be a child. So for years, Thomas lived indoors and went off what his parents had to say for stories of the outside world. Thomas had caught glimpses of the world but never got to explore it. He longed to visit the outside, and his father promised that once they made enough money, the three would leave the city and live in a quiet town where Thomas could live like any other boy his age.
Of course, even the pure Provensians grow desperate. Robert and Maria were running out of money and had to do something to stop themselves from living on the street. They decided that the best idea was to make a loan from the one place that could possibly provide enough for the Rartho family to get enough lift to make money: The Martillo Family. Thomas was told to hide when the family payed their business visits to the Rartho home, and thus he had. Robert invested in a large loan that he planned to eventually pay off in order to start making money and leave the city once and for all. Of course, time went by and Roberts plans had failed. He suddenly held a huge debt which he could not pay to the infamous crime organization. His friends betrayed him, not wanting to help someone who made deals with Martillo. With no way to repay the debt, Robert and Maria Rartho were slain by the hands of the family. The few family valuables they had were looted, and the house was left an empty shell with nothing but two corpses. Two corpses and their weeping child.
When Thomas had no more tears to shed, he ventured out into the real world for the first time. He was eight years old, and this young child spent a mere few hours out on the night streets. His mind set was shattered, and he could no longer be considered a child. Thomas had seen thieves at the dead of night steal for survival. Picking up dropped lock picks and their ways, Thomas began doing what he must in order to survive. Steal from everyone, and anyone. He had seen the adults do it, what was so wrong about a child taking what he needed? Thomas knew no better and adapted to thieving for survival. He learned the tricks of the trade. With not enough strength or training to rely on brawn, Thomas relied on his wit to outsmart those around him. He was in the habit of manipulating those around him to take gold and food as he pleases.
Thomas had kept up this act for the next two years. Until he found his hand in the coin purse of a men rich enough to buy blood. Thomas had been spotted by The Family, whom he attempted to steal from. Thomas recognized the men as the family, and ran faster than he had ever before. Even though the men had not chased him, Thomas kept running, not paying attention to anything around him. He made his way to the docks and payed the captain his sum of gold for a boat ride and food on the ride. Little did Thomas know, he was heading straight to a new era of hostile territory. Where both his loyalty, love, dedication, and wit would be tested in a new terrain. The Forbidden Lands.
It was on these lands where Thomas found himself to meet a strange and tall Xitian woman named Snow and her equally strange husband, Darkus. The two comforted the lost boy and gave him some gold. They led Thomas to an inn room where he stayed for one night. All he thought of these two was fools. They brought him into their house, showed him around, and then let him stay for free at an inn full of gold. Thomas felt life was great, nothing could stop his new reign. Unlike the people of Provensia, these idiots thought nothing of a young boy. Nothing would, could, or even know to get in his way...Unless it was a near clueless, imaginative, little girl. A young girl named Rosalie. Rosalie had been the child Thomas never was. She took him across town and invited him to stay in her manor with her father, Darren. Rosalie took Thomas on adventures he found both silly, yet somehow fun for him. He knew nearly everything she rambled on about was nonsense, yet he had fun searching for frog monsters and exploring the caves of mad men. Even getting lost had some fun to it. To Thomas, she was a sister, the only time he felt like a kid again. Rosalie's father, despite his violent ways to others showed compassion to Thomas. Thomas was treated as a son and protected as one. Although he never felt as close of a connection to Darren as he had with Rosalie. Within this time, Thomas had continued his thieving ways in the town. He had even enlisted as the guard captain, Zarkaylia's apprentice to learn her routes and ways to avoid being caught. He had trained under her the way of sword. With help, Thomas began teaching himself how to play the lute as well. However, these two years were short as Darren left the Forbidden lands with Rosalie, leaving Thomas to live with Zarkalyia. Thomas now lived with his mentor. And over time, she and her crazy husband grew on Thomas. Zarkalyia taught Thomas ways of honesty, loyalty, and true wisdom, along with the sword. At the time, Thomas had also picked up shield use with Atlas. Another two years passed, and a fourteen year old Thomas loved his new mother and father. More than his lute, more than drawing, more than stealing. As time had passed, the guild began to eat Thomas from the inside out. He confessed to Zarkalyia and gave the gold to the town. Zarkalyia left in a fit of depression, and Thomas was left both sad and angry with himself. Shortly after she disappeared, Thomas ran into the jungle at the dead of night.
As he traveled, Thomas found an old, abandoned inn within the jungle. Bones piled at the graveyard put Thomas on his nerves, however, he kept going. He wanted to explore what the old place had. The door creaked open as Thomas walked inside, and creaked shut just as quickly. The bar was covered in cobwebs, and nearly rotten down to nothing. Old books were in every bookshelf. Thomas walked in, the howling of the night air crawled across the walls of the inn. Thomas lept over the counter and took a peak at some of the books. He found little that made sense to him. Some of the books contained logs about a mad man. Suddenly, when in the mist of reading, Thomas heard a strange noise. Pitter patter pitter patter.
He jumped and looked behind him. Nothing was there. He set the book away and drew the Iron shield and wooden sword that lay rest on his back. He continued to explore the building, following a blood trail upstairs. The old wood beneath his feet croaked in warning as he walked up it, and once again, Thomas hear the sound. Pitter patter pitter patter. Thomas checked behind himself once more to see nothing, although he could not help but feel on edge. He followed the blood trail into doors atop the stairs. The books led to more clues. When he opened the second door, Thomas panicked and nearly lost his guts. What he discovered was a rotting human corpse on top of a bed, with blood splattered around it. The corpse smelt horrid and old. The look it gave terrified Thomas. He shut the door to the room and went to leave the upstairs, afraid of what disgusting mutilation he might find next. Thomas began to make his way down the stairs when he suddenly heard the sound. Pitter patter pitter patter. He swung his blade around and took a fighting stance when he noticed something: A large, harry leg crawling away from him. What was it? He had heard Zarkaylia and others talk of giant spider dusk monsters, although Thomas had never seen a good glimpse of them before. He was inside and sleeping at night, and the walls of Provensia had sheltered the entire city from dusk monsters. The idea of giant spiders sounded like a fairy tale. Thomas made his way down stairs and into the basement. The sounds became more frequent as Thomas carefully checked every corner around him. He found a strong Iron door and investigated it. Thomas decided to prop it open and venture inside. As the Iron came to a near shut behind him, Thomas felt a presence staring right at him. He looked forward to see a thousand red eyes glaring at him. Thomas froze for an instant, and just as quickly, he ran. The eyes chased him to the door as he hastily shut it to keep the monster out. They had been giant spiders, hunting him down to make a tasty meal. Before Thomas could shut the door, two spiders made past the door. One had made a quip at his leg. Before the spider could cause serious injury, Thomas pulled away and kicked it. He then bashed the spiders with his shield and sword to kill them. His right shin was bleeding, but he felt no time to dwell in pain. The spiders were still pounding at the door in front of him. Thomas ran as fast as he could out of the inn, to escape back to the town. He was later given medical attention from Margretha, who he later told about the acts of thievery as well. He also told her of his experience with the spiders. The thought terrified him. The noise never left his mind.
Thomas reunited with his mother shorty after and felt nothing but pure happiness as he finally found himself accepted by a caring parent who he loved equally. Although their happy times were short as the town was assaulted by natural disaster. Thomas, Zarkalyia, and Caesar, along with other townsfolk made their way to the boat and escaped the ruined town. For all of them, especially Thomas, this meant starting over. It meant a new life. This meant freedom from the shackles of misery that Provensia had tied. Finally, Thomas was a free boy. Who knows where his new voyage could take him?
The revolution at Provensia:
At the age of nineteen, Thomas had left the city of Ravenna and its fruits and virtues to go back to the mainland. Thomas had left the caring family that adopted him and raised him to set his own roots else ware. Thomas knew the dangers yet felt ready to finally do something in the world, and he knew exactly what he wanted to do first. After conversing with his foster mother, Zarkaylia, Thomas decided to go back to his home city of Provensia in an attempt to set things right there, taking a long voyage for half a year in order to reach the city. Thomas had lived years of his life under the roof of a poor family that could barely thrive while supporting the child. After his parents had been assassinated for being unable to repay loans, Thomas was cast to the streets homeless and faced with a choice. To either steal, manipulate, deceive and only look out for his own skin. Or die. The young boy quickly adapted and did his best to harm others for his own benefit. The years of theft had led Thomas to become cold and distrusting to the world around him. After Thomas had escaped the city and was adopted by the Spy family, Thomas had changed his ways and turned himself in. He changed from the good for nothing street rat to the loyal guard who did his best to protect his fellow Mesalians. Of course, matters in Provensia had not changed since the boy had left the city, and the guilt of theft still ate at him. Not from his crimes in Aruia, to which he returned all the stolen goods back to the town, but the fellow poor Provensians he had lied to for his own good. Thomas decided that he would repay his debts by striking Provensia at its core. He wanted to restore the city.
After a sailing trip away from Ravenna, Thomas landed port in the near by town of Salint. Salint consisted of refuges and those fortunate enough to leave Provensia. Most who were able to leave did not have the money to go to the Forbidden Lands or travel to a far away city. So Shortly after Thomas left Provensia eleven years ago, the town of Salint formed. The corruption and crime that laid waste to a once glorious city was nowhere to be seen, allowing Thomas to work freely. Thomas had set up shop quickly to start his work for a new order in the city. Thomas took his time and had to convince the other Provensians that he was really one of them, really someone willing to bite the bullet and risk getting killed. The city has has its fair share of revolutionaries before, but most were killed as they directly attacked Martillo. Some folks who had plans were discoureged from doing so, but not Thomas. Thomas was more than willing to put his life on the line and the other Provensians saw this. They needed someone to lead them away from the fear they held. As it turns out, the other former Provensians were eager to begin work on a plan to restore the city. Thomas and the others knew where to start, and that was with the corrupted government and guard of Provensia. Most revolutions that begin in Provensia start with the intention of removing the Martillo family as fast as possible. These attempts are always in vein though, as Martillo Carter has a grip on the cities government and thus is able to escape and jailing and turn the tables on the revolutionaries. So Thomas and his followers decided to instead focus on the main problem, the cities government. They knew that if the corrupt members of the guard and government were removed from play, then Martillo would have no legal backing. Without the governments protection, Martillo would become the hunted and would be actively pursued by those truly wishing the fix the city. After the group from Salint became large enough with former Provensians, they went into the the city using old smuggling routes and recruited inter city members for their gang. It was not long before Thomas had swayed enough eager Provensians to join his cause and to bring back peace. The civilians, although untrained, had adapted to the city and could be as cut throat as the thieves and mobsters. After a month or two, Thomas had successfully reached the pinnacle of his gangs strength. The group had their plans set. Their motives straight. And it was time to pursue their goals. Countless days and nights passed as Thomas and his gang went after the worst the city had to offer in the political chairs. For once, Thomas felt things had been going to plan for his good intentions. And for once, Thomas felt like a true leader being in charge of this gang. The group had managed to keep in the low light for quite some time. They had to be able to carry out their tasks without being under too much suspicion from the Martillo family or the city officials. Plans were formed to keep things in track or to throw off any hot trails that followed the assassinations.
For the rest of the year, the plans carried out by Thomas and his gang worked wonders. The government started the panic and less activity was present among the common gangsters and even the Martillo family. Although Martillo was not about to have his legacy fall to some boy who had just taken charge of the situation. So thus began a battle of wits between Thomas and Martillo. Thomas however had almost no advantages and was led to carrying out his plans at precise moments and timing or else him or his fellow Provensians would be killed. Martillo had received the upper hand when a guard had captured one of the revolutionaries. Thomas and the gang decided they had to break their comrade out as fast as possible or consequences involving the entire operation could be had. The group, including Thomas had went into the guard housing to where their captured friends was. After breaking into and sneaking past guards, much like Thomas' thieving days. The group members that arrived at the interrogation rooms, and found not only their friend dead, but several others who were mere suspects of the crimes the group had committed. Before the group could escape and explain the situation to others, the guard came and arrested Thomas and the group currently with him. Imprisoned, the remaining Provensian residential members were also caught and arrested. The jailing of a good mass of the group shut down operation and led to the plunge of Thomas' gang. The guard began to execute members at random one by one so that the corrupted officials could send a message to the Provensians. Martillo had now won the battle. Martillo felt that the guards fear tactics would discourage the Provensians further and thus, another revolution was crushed. During the two weeks spent in the Provensian prison, fourteen members were executed from the gang, at random. The guard captain, however, removed Thomas from the drawings so that he may witness Thomas' spirits being crushed. While the executions were occurring, Thomas and the others had made their plans to escape the Provensian jail. They were successful after prolonged days of fearing for their lives and broke out of the jail. Grabbing what he could, Thomas escaped the city from an old smuggling route back to the town of Salint. Carrying nothing but his sword and the clothes on his back, Thomas left the next day feeling nothing but failure and disappointment. Thomas not only failed his fellow members He knew his mother, father, and Conradian could provide that direction or advice. Back at Ravenna.
