First of all, I'd like to go over something that you may be misunderstanding.
War of Veld: The War of Veld was basically a time where the portal to the Celestial Realm reopened and the Lucins came spewing out to drive the Xitians back into the Dusk Realm. So the Xitians wouldn't really be looking to siege places, in fact, they'd be the ones being laid siege.
I'd suggest you read the lore again to match your timelines and events.
Moving on to your skills;
Advanced skills: Considering Gerrick's young age - as you say, preteen - he really can't have all these skills, if he started learning skills at, give or take, at the age of 8, he's only have about three years at best to learn. And that would allow him either two novice skills, or just one apprentice skill.
Remember that skills, depending on the difficulty, can take longer to develop, and that advanced skills in particular takes up to 10 years to train.
I suggest you read up the skills guide found here and read up on the conditions required for certain skill levels.
Realism and details, and here we are.
Layered Clothes: I noticed that under the appearances you mention that he wears layers of clothing because of his fair skin. From what I gather from people with fair skin, this is rather impractical, as the layers would only contribute to their melting their skins off. Unless you'd like to clarify, I raise an eyebrow to this particular description, and would like you to change this bit.
Robert, bro or master?: I'm rather confused with the overall motive of Robert. First he takes the pains to raise a baby, then becomes aloof to him to the point of calling him Orphan. What kind of person was Robert? Did he even care about Gerrick at all?
I'd like you to elaborate a bit more on Robert as at the moment, he is a very conflicting character.
Gerrick, the child thief: Then there's Gerrick himself. From what I can gather from the backstory - well, I haven't gathered much - Gerrick grows learning all the things that Robert has to teach, and yet there is nothing on his part that says anything about himself. I can't really figure out who Gerrick is as a character. He rather seems to be passive throughout, and I'd like you to change that.
Give me how he felt being raised by Robert, and not by his own parents. Was there resentment at all? Or was he too young to think about all this? How did he think of Robert? Robert did look out for him, after all.
