Appearance
Overall, Jane looks like a messy child. She is 106cm tall (roughly 3 feet and 6 inches), with soft, dark-brown skin, and a pudgy, undeveloped physique. Her belly is round and protrudes, and her face is round in shape and features. She has a large, flat nose and a small, thick-lipped mouth. She has dark brown, almost black, afro-textured hair that reaches the middle of her back--it’s poofy and tangled, full of dry, tightly coiled curls that grow outwards, and cluttered with debris: sticks, twigs, leaves, mud, and maybe a dead bug or two. She currently wears it out. Her eyes are the same colour: they’re almond-shaped and they squint when she smiles, her chubby cheeks pushing upwards on her lower lid. When she smiles, one can also see that she’s missing one of her top front teeth. She’s only a kid, but she has a few scars: scabby splotches on her knees from tripping on her boot laces and smacking into a stone road, and a small scar along her hairline from trying to surf down a flight of stairs on a bit of scrap wood. She wears a mid-sleeved, saffron-coloured dress made of cotton, with a midnight blue sash around the waist--underneath that is a white, muslin petticoat that gives her skirt a poofy shape. Her dress is stained with grass, mud, and dust. Peeking out from beneath the chaos of her skirts are a pair of loose, brown, calf-length pants and a sturdy pair of boots: it’s kind of like she’s wearing a princess costume over normal clothing. She smells like sweat and grass.
Vocal Details
Similar to how she moves, Jane doesn’t really exercise restraint when she talks. Thus, Jane’s voice usually rings and can be heard from ages away. It doesn’t matter if she’s indoors or outdoors, or if she’s happy or upset--she is just this constant source of loudness. Generally, she can be fumbly in her speech in that she tends to stop briefly to think mid-sentence, then starts up again (so not a stutter, that’s different). Her voice also has a quality to it that is somewhere between whiny and sing-song--especially when she says someone’s name, which makes her sound like she wants something from you all the time. The only time Jane isn’t loud is when she isn’t confident in herself--when she’s scared, or shy, or just doesn’t want other people to know that something is wrong. Her speech tends to become more fumbly, and she tends to talk through Miffy (i.e. ‘Miffy wants some warm milk’, when she really means she wants warm milk).
Jane has an accent, though it is strange and mixed--vaguely Central European, though only a little similar to Cyn’s. This is the result of Jane growing up while travelling, and having various influences to base her voice on. Another result is Jane’s vocabulary--it’s mostly simple, but she tends to misuse or mispronounce more complex words she’s picked up from some adult somewhere. This also reflects her desire to be seen as an adult. Other speech patterns include: using ‘sorry’ as a way to brush off things and get out of trouble quickly; telling people she hates them far too easily, and I’ll think of more later when I start RPing her.
Physicality
Jane moves without restraint. She tends to not be very conscious of how she looks to other people, and still hasn’t grasped how to lie convincingly. Thus, her movements tend to be big and expressive--again, she has no sense of restraint, so her emotions are always easy to read in her body language and facial expressions: she screws up her entire face, crosses her arms, and stomps around when angry; sticks out her bottom lip, cries, and closes up when upset; and smiles wide with her teeth when happy. Her expressions always show through, even when she’s lying, so she’s not particularly difficult to interact with on this level. However, another consequence to her lack of restraint is that Jane tends to play rough, and show physical affection (like hugging or petting) roughly--this is also because she isn’t used to playing with others, and isn’t aware of her own strength. Cute little animals: beware.
The exception occurs when Jane is scared, as her PTSD makes her feel fear more intensely--which means her movements aren’t just easy to read, but they’re bigger than big. When Jane is scared, she shakes violently. She shrinks herself and cries. She has has trouble breathing. She sucks her thumb, despite being at an age where she should be too old for it. She says and believes things like ‘someone’s gonna get me’, and she refuses to be separated from whoever is around her until she is calmed down.
Jane also has an inability to stay still, and will fidget if made to stand or sit still: she’ll pick grime out of her gross nails, pick earwax from her ears, play with her hair, pick her nose, look around, hum, and will just generally rock her head around. When she sits, she tends to slouch and swing her legs. When made to stand in one spot, she tends to rock between her heel and her toes. Miscellaneous ‘Jane-isms’ include: she always sleeps fully covered by blankets for security; she pushes her hair back when she’s sweaty, and I’ll come up with more later when I start RPing her. Like all of my characters, Jane is left handed.

Items
- One small pouch bag (x1 Chest: ‘Small Pouch Bag’). Plain burlap, coarsely woven. Has long, drawstring straps so it may be worn like a satchel. Just a child-sized travelling bag. Only sometimes on her person--mostly used as an easy way to carry Miffy.
- One stuffed lion toy (x1 Pufferfish: ‘Miffy (Stuffed Lion Toy)’). Plain wool as a body, finely knitted, stuffed with straw. Brown woolen mane, brown knitted face. Something like this. Old and worn-out. Smells like sea water. Slightly dusty. Almost always carried by Jane. See relationships for more information.
- One tunic (x1 Yellow Leather Armour: ‘Child’s Yellow Tunic’). Saffron-yellow cotton, mid-sleeved. Well made. Lightly stained. Currently stuffed into Jane’s bag.
- One wide-toothed comb (x1 Ladder: ‘Small Wooden Comb’). Wooden, plain design. Wide-toothed for thick, bushy tangles. Currently kept in Jane’s bag.
- One waterskin (1x Leather: ‘Waterskin’). Has a strap so it can be worn like a bag. Currently worn on Jane’s person.
- One charcoal pencil (1x Charcoal: ‘Charcoal Pencil’). About the length of a thumb, well used. Currently kept in Jane’s bag.
- One book (1x Book and Quill: ‘Jane’s Notebook’). Leather hardcover, with 'JANE' pressed into the leather. Small, thin. Thick pages. Very worn from adventures, including tears, food stains, and water damage. Plenty of drawings, scribbles, and attempts at writing and math inside (see notebook contents). Currently in Jane’s bag.
