[10] Rules Revision [In-Game and In-Character Policies]
#11
Putting Notes on each policy from me, here.
1. - OOC signs. (AND)
2. - Event/Lore buildings and places
--------- Would it be possible to even label the event or lore buildings, as OOC/Abandoned, to allow looting /explorations when someone gets there? Would we want to? Would we want to have signs saying other things OOCly such as 'you may want more than one person here' or 'this would interest a person involved in history/religion'?

3. Sex and Romance
----- Pedophilia definition is 'sexual attraction or acts toward children'.
I think the rule on this, may need tweaked. 16 is not (universally defined?) as child-age, and (back in medieval times) 16 was almost late for getting married. If we need a hard rule, then perhaps a younger age. Otherwise I would think maturity plays more into this, as well as when two teens decide on sex, that's not pedophilia either.
However, since we prefer people to move into relationships slowly as it is, then this may be a redundant ruling?
----- Rape.
This is violence, power, and control, not sex. At the very basic, this needs moved either to the section regarding character fighting/violence, or at minimum linked to that section.
I'll add more about this discussion later, but for now, since I'm more going over the entire section of policies, I'm only giving some input over the generalization stuff.

4. there seems to be no 4.

5. Second Chars.
------
Quote:Rule breaks may or may not be considered.
We may want to change this. They -are- considered, but may not impact negatively toward the allowance of second chars.
-----
Quote:Only staff with approval from the Admin may anyone play 3 characters, and only if at least 1 is a plot device.
This is actually confusing I think because of the word 'anyone' ? It may also need to be separate from the paragraph about playing two at once, and add about staff may play two at once for certain reasons only.
This may also be a place to explain about two accounts.

6. Looting
----- May want examples for the 'realistic' of how much to loot when taking items.
----- Abandoned homes (living in them) may want to be moved to #1. unless we are talking about 'looting a home' as in taking a home to live in?
(While on that subject, what about public places that are not 'owned'? I suppose it means the town owner still owns them, but currently we had people living in the barn and in the mill. Was this not allowed? Is this considered OOC breaking rule, or IC breaking rule? Who IS the town owner so we know who to tell OOCly? Do we need permission first, or just let them know we were there? (This did not involved taking items - only about where the person was sleeping.)

7. There seems to be a missing 7.

8. Pets.
----- We may want to have staff approval for ANY pet, or at least staff recognition, due to needing to have either brought them with you, traded for one, or tamed/trained one yourself - which all need staff approval anyway.
Work Animal - when is it considered YOUR work animal, versus 'community' work animal? Is this when you trained it, you take care of it, you found it? What if this animal is taken care of by multiple people? (Since we have herders now, and some people were taking care of all the animals, not just the farm ones.)
EX: Heidi has a dog from when she entered setting, and now tamed/ is training a horse, for work. For Heidi to train another horse, would she have to get rid of her current one? Can she give it to the town or to a specific person? What if she wanted to keep her current one, but was training one for the town? Would the new horse be able to be considered a community work animal?
What is a riding horse considered? They're not actually for work - though they could be, I suppose; but they are more recreational/transportation. Or perhaps it would be a farm animal, used for transportation/recreation?
Also: may need clarification on if 2 work animals AND 1 pet animal is allowed, or if it's one OR the other.

9. Items when approved.
----- This seems fine.

10. Skins
-----Dyes. Since dyes are needed to be used constantly, how do we explain where the dyes come from? How do people get these dyes? (I mean the non plant ones like white and black) How often are they used?

11. Hidden Chests
Quote:it will be considered a try to hide items one gained by rulebreak and both rulebreaks will be investigated.
I think I know what it means, but this still sounds confusing. May need reworded.

12. Locks.
Quote:Anyone can make simple locks for doors and chests, though they are easily picked
??? Can we have examples? And is there a reason anyone can? Especially if already one should not go into chests/houses without permission, I'm unsure why we'd have anyone be abel to make a simple lock that anyone can still pick. It sounds redundant/obsolete or.. something.

13. OOG RP
I might like to expand this, to explain why we would much prefer people to actually be on the server, if possible, to roleplay just about anything, but give explanations as to when we understand some RP's for convenience of the two involved, are able to be in other forms.

14. Proxy stuff.
I am Jon Snow on this.

- A rape does not need to be RPed out. In fact, I agree this is too far. However, these things do happen and it can be decided between 2 players if they choose. Just skip the scene like you were skipping a movie.
- I saw this ruin 2 very good people's mood today, as this was brought up in game. That is not necessary! Don't do that! It ruins the fun of the game for everyone!
- If a player is not comfortable with the subject, their character can walk out or they can voice it OOC and the topic/subject can be avoided out of respect! This being said, it cannot be ignored, as this happens in life.
- Mesalia, as far as I can tell, strives for the realistic properties it holds. Rape happens, it is real. It's presence is there, but that doesn't mean it needs to be forced upon anybody, done for no reason or to create drama, nor over-used. This is why it needs staff approval.
- Just because it can happen, doesn't mean it will happen to you. Especially if you object.
- It isn't clear in the section that both players must agree to this, so I would do so.
- Rape can't be removed because some people don't agree, it isn't really fair. I, myself, don't mind as it is all IC and shows no reflection on the player. (This doesn't mean that I would agree in a second if a proposal came to make it happen, in fact I would probably say no right now as I am a new player and don't have the experience to play out properly.) This is what 2 players allow to happen, it doesn't need to concern you; if you don't like it, stay out of it, and everything can work out on it's own.

For the most part, this is true. Consent and approval by staff SHOULD be a requirement. However, the last point proves a bit, again, in the grey area when dealing with this.

Just about EVERYONE dislikes Pedophilia, as I will use in example. You would most likely say the same about rape, given what you say here. How come then, does rape need to be included if both of these are real life phenomena? (And I am not a judge of which one is worse, or less suited for PG-13. I would never say such a thing.) Several other things we allowed, as I last recalled, were; Deaths of children, Gruesome death, nudity (As long as it's not elaborated on in detail), and others that are, in a sense, a bit opinionated when it comes to being allowed on a PG-13 server.

Though these, I think we can agree on, are not explicitly tabooed like Rape and pedophilia, I'd suggest if we are to limit them down to consent and/or approval of staff, we'd need to do it evenly, depending on how it's viewed among the cooperative writers of the story. Either way, if we are to keep anything controversial like rape, we'd need to strictly limit it, and allow other, possibly even more controversial things, so long as it stays within the rating. As with Zarky here, we should NEVER CONDONE ANYTHING of this nature. As we NEVER HAD.

I can assure you we do not condone anything anymore than an author writing a book. This is not a game, this is player-written stories.

We don't condone racism. We don't condone fascism. We don't condone war. We don't condone a shit tonne of a lot of the dark aspects of the Mesalian fantasy world. This includes the topic at hand.

Let me be clear. I apologise for offending you and I certainly did not intend to do so. I extend this apology to any others I may have upset with the same comment.

I feel that if I continue to play, I would feel as if I was endorsing something I disagree with. This is not a commentary on anyone else, it is my personal feelings and reasoning.

Yes, people do have different opinions on this issue. I have no argument with them, I do not feel slighted by them for holding that opinion and I do not seek to attack them based on their opinion.

Though true to some respect, it can still be argued that it can just be hinted at. The difference being rape is mostly explicit, usually sexual. While Pedophilia doesn't exactly need to be. Though yeah, neither of them need to be roleplayed out. That'd just be distasteful, HIGHLY distasteful in PG-13.

[Quick Edit:] Think I'll go over some of the other points in the policies next post. Though it seems Fae got a lot of them down.

It sure is a good thing we live in a world where no one under the age of 13 has even a slight concept of what rape is. God bless America.

(29-03-2014, 02:24 AM)French_Fri Wrote: I agree with Arc as well. Rape is an incredibly touchy subject, especially in an Rp. I mean, acting out something such as rape, abuse, etc. doesn't seem all that necessary, and is, in my personal opinion, rather distasteful. I don't think Rape Rp should be allowed, even if you are an excellent roleplayer, as being able to accurately depict an event, doesn't mean you should. I assume the point of 'nothing is actually typed out' would come into play, though the very notion of performing the act is enough to be simply unnecessary.

Do you know how many characters backstories include rape, genocide, murder, patricide, matricide, and all sort of death and horrible, horrible things? You are right, these things should NEVER been typed out in the story, but you can't expect people to change who their characters are by removing these tragic events from their backstories.

(29-03-2014, 04:13 PM)Ziofera Wrote: It is a step too far for me, and it is a shame that the server clashes with my personal morals this extremely. Rape is something that happens in real life, but RP is a fantasy world and I cannot accept rape being a part of it.

I get it. I do. Its not a happy thought, but to pretend it doesn't happen isn't much better. What if someone else didnt feel comfortable with anyone dying, because they'd lost someone in their life? We would understand, and we would try to make sure they didnt have to see it, but it can't not happen.. This is a poor example when compared to rape, but the idea that some people not liking it isn't enough to completely retcon several characters. How many characters have had rape, or murder, or death happen in their backstories? All of that would need to be rewritten to suit your needs. Its unrealistic.

(29-03-2014, 04:47 PM)Dark Wrote: If the server were to have always strove for realism, why is it that pedophilia is not allowed in the same context that it cannot be role-played out, just like the current rules on rape?

It has happened in characters backstories. *shrug*

Bottom line here is, none of this happens in RP. Like Sex, you kiss, and then it fades to black. This is not a server for that kind of thing, but to pretend it doesn't happen, to put you hands on your head and say lalalalala its not happening lalalalala, is childish. You have a right to not let it happen, and I have a right to let it happen. Not everyone can be right, but you can either be on the side that limits others, or the side that lets people freely express themselves, in whatever tragic way they want.

EDIT: Reminder of rule 1 and to respect others' opinions. This is a last warning, Ryu.
