Take electricity. To many it's simple to try to assume that the Mesalian universe will wander down the exact same evolutionary path as our own world has done. That's not at all strange, that's an understandable and common thought process.
But if you look at it, the Mesalian universe have runes. If there's anything that should be closer to its inhabitants' thoughts to dive into it'd be that. And it'd create a likely entirely different kind of development. Why'd Mesalians, Lucins and Xitians need whole cities of electrical wiring linked to one single source possibly hundreds of kilometers away, when a small rune torch can provide the energy needed to light a lamp? When such thing as teleportation with the help of it is a thing? To not mention WHY would they wire whole networks for telephone lines when they have communication runes available already now?
Add to that the elemental powers of Xitians and Lucins plus the fact there's creatures roaming the nights that are with all likeliness not gonna even flinch at a little bullet and one can draw the conclusion that the Mesalian universe /should/ carry an entirely different outcome than our own.
