(Hope this is the right place for this)
Some time ago now, Kane dissappeared all of a sudden. The reason for this was a letter he recieved from his sister pleading for his help and quickly.
His brothers had been conscripted by the nation for an upcoming offensive against a neighbouring nation, they were only craftsmen and had little experience of war or fighting.
Kane returned home as quickly as he could, tracking his brothers down through a lot of asking around and a little luck.
He ended up offering his own skills in place of his brothers, after all a trained warrior is worth much more than two untrained villagers.
After a few skirmishes, he was put given a more leading role in the regiment he had joined, as well as told to train the men, who were mostly conscripts with little to no experience.
This continued for some time as the war began in earnest and fighting truly began.
In one of the battles, his regiment were caught out and flanked. As the casualties increased, the men began to break and rout. Which Kane hardly noticed, as he was caught up in something akin to a battlefrenzy. He was shaken out of this by a man at his shoulder, who also broke his concentration allowing an enemy to land a clear strike to his shield arm, cutting it deeply.
After the rout, what was left of the regiment was heavily injured and what treatment there was was stretched thin, leading to both delayed and poor treatment of Kane's injury. As a result of this, the wound became infected quite quickly, leaving little option but for amputation.
He was given very little time to recover from such a drastic procedure and instead forced back to work in a non-combat role, as the dregs of his regiment was reformed with another to try and form one that was up to strength. His job within this new regiment was training and drilling troops as well as maintaining some degree of order and discipline.
From here on, his did not actively fight, instead focusing on his work within the regiment, partly out of his usual sense of duty but mostly to try and adapt and cope. The war ground to a stalemate and a truce was signed, with little really gained by either side.
With nothing more tying him to the mainland, he began to return to Nightveil, wondering what would happen to him now and what had happened in his absence.
Changes:
Appearance:
Left arm amputated from below the elbow.
Personality:
He's grown more outspoken and talkative, having spent a lot of time talking and drinking with the other troops, though this doesn't apply to serious matters.
This is however counterbalanced by the fact he's angry over his injury and constantly frustrated with the difficulty everyday matters now present to him. Leading to irritability and a shorter temper.
He's bitter about so much being lost while achieving nothing of worth.
He's also been forced to think more on his constant bordom and desire to fight, realising how careless it made him. While it hasn't just gone away, he has become much more wary of himself and his instincts, as well as generally less willing to solve problems though violence or threat.
Skills:
Swordsmanship Expert > Competant:
Without a large part of his left arm, he has been having balance issues, especially when fighting. He has recovered to an extent, through the constant training and drilling he carried out but he's far from the skill he used to possess.
Shields Competant > N/A
He no longer has an arm with which to use a shield.
Leadership/Training Novice > Apprentice
Having spent a lot of time acting as a superior to regular troops he has learnt a fair amount about how to handle it.
Other:
Experiences 'Phantom limb pain' as irregular stabs of burning.
Has some trouble sleeping, leads to him being drowsy or sluggish at times.
