Your Character Biography:As The Purge drew to a close, the people of clan Moubray began to look out onto the horizon. They had fought with every fiber of their being to escape the oppression of the tyrannical Xitians, and with their freedom had came a terrible price. Many of the elders had died in the war, much of their family heirlooms and history lost, and it fell to Duncan Moubray, who had been second in line to lead the family, to decide the fate of his clan.
It was many days after Duncan assumed his place as clan leader, that he announced they would head up into the mountains. Some of the clan grumbled with disapproval, but none disobeyed as they trekked across the land. When they finally arrived on the snowy mountain tops, winter had begun to break. Settling in a little valley, Duncan declared that this place would be from this moment on known as Dunmoy Hold.
Not long after, Duncan took a clanswoman, Ede, as his wife. A grand feast was held were the entirety of the clan met to celebrate a new page in their clan history, one that would be free of blood shed and war. It was a day that all could take time to realize that, a bright future was ahead of them. By Fall, Kenna, daughter of Duncan and Ede was born.
She had led a simple life, where she was content to learn sewing from her mother and help cook and clean when she wasn't off on some adventure. Kenna was content, even though she despised how her mother and the other ladies would chastise her for acting without proper manners. The one time Kenna had picked up a wooden sword and sparred with the boys of the village, Ede was furious. If it hadn't been for Duncan, Kenna would've been confined to the grand hall for the next week. Duncan was the center of her universe.
Ten years passed, and during that time Dunmoy Hold had grown into a bustling mining town, with not a single beggar walking the streets. No one was left uncared for. It was a time of prosperity and peace for the hard working people of clan Moubray.
Kenna, now ten years old, had grown into an adventurous young woman, always running off and getting into fights with the other children. It didn't matter how much her mother scolded her, or even reminded Duncan that Kenna was to grow up as a proper lady. To see her daughter covered in mud, offering him a flower, he could feel nothing but pride.
Down below though, outside of their peaceful mountain home, war had broken out once more. At first, they felt safe. That was until the raiders began to arrive, trying to claim the iron mines for themselves. Once more, clan Moubray took up arms to defend their freedom.
The clan urged everyone to prepare themselves for war, and after intense pressure from the veterans of the Veld War, ten year old Kenna was conscripted into the Highland Scouts, a group of veteran huntsman and warriors that patrolled the mountain passes, on the look out for raiders, much to the outrage of her father.
By this time, Duncan's power had begun to wane. Many openly opposed his rule, saying that he had led them into this path of destruction. Rumors even circulated that he had struck a deal with the raiders to keep some of the loot for himself. There had even been an attempt on his life by poisoning his wine, which thankfully the servant had tried to sneak a sip of.
Meanwhile, Kenna had been nothing more than dead weight to the Highland Scouts. In the early morning, before sunrise, they would be ready to leave camp while she would still be asleep, no matter how many times they tried to wake her. She had to be dragged everywhere as she defied every order she was given, insisting that she be taken home. She despised living out in the wilds, away from her family and friends.
As time went on though, moving from place to place and never staying at a camp site for more than a day, her home sickness was broken. Finally, her true training began. Kenna was taught how to track people through the wilds, hide in the trees and bushes, and move quickly through the terrain. At first, she resented her teachers, but, she grew to admire and respect them. Many times they had saved her life during a raid, and a bond quickly formed.
Seven years crawled by, and in that time she had returned to the Hold every few months to report what happened in the mountains. Her mother was appalled by what her daughter had become, a woman of the wilds who lacked any lady like qualities, and often crude. Duncan though, as always, was more than happy to claim her as his own blood.
The Highland Scouts while at the Hold would lurk about the town, watching the shadows. Few if any of them would actually interact with the others aside from bartering for goods. The same could be said for Kenna. She no longer had anything at all in common with most of her old friends, and the only person outside of the Scouts she shared a connection with was her father. If she wasn't with him, she was with her comrades sneaking about.
Kenna realized how fortunate she was, having been removed from the courtly politics that played out every day. To see how once close friends plotted against each other and forged back room deals, it disgusted her. To see so many who lacked loyalty or honesty, it was beyond her comprehension. Looking back on it, she'd never wish for it to have turned out any other way.
A week and a half after her twenty second birthday, The Highland Scouts encountered something they had never seen since the Hold's founding. An army of at least one thousand men marched up the mountain pass, straight for Dunmoy Hold. As fast as they could, they went to warn the hold of the coming danger.
When they arrived with the news, chaos broke out. A battle between Duncan loyalists and those who believed that he had betrayed them broke out. While this went on, Kenna was escorted down the mountain side by a few of her father's trusted advisers. With her she had two family heirlooms, the family shield and a deer antler dagger.
With her family and friends dead or even worse, enslaved, Kenna felt lost. Her entire world had been turned upside down, and with war all around her, she sought the only place that could possibly be safe, The Forbidden Lands. Maybe there, she could find a place that could be called home. Making her way to the coast, she took a ship across the oceans. Now twenty four, Kenna has been traveling the wilds, wandering for nearly a year after arriving in these new lands.
Personality:She is firm, unmoving no matter what comes her way and cannot be beaten down easily. Rarely will she act rashly but when she does, a tremendous force will slide down upon all those around her. Her ambitions and dreams reach up into the skies, but her feet are planted firmly on the ground. It also wouldn't be too much of a stretch to call her stubborn and stuck in her ways.
She is in fact though, a very caring and compassionate person, even though it might not always show. After growing up with tough love from the grizzled war veterans of the Highland Scouts, Kenna has a more militaristic approach to her life than others would have. Authority is to be respected, and laws as well as orders are to be followed.
Because she had spent most of her life out in the wilds though, Kenna has an intense appreciation for the simpler things in life, such as having more to eat than a meager portion of rabbit meat for more than a day, or having a warm bed compared to sleeping on the cold hard ground. In the end though, friendship and camaraderie are what is most important to Kenna, and only surpassed by loyalty.
Specify your character's skills:
Traditional Weapons - Apprentice: One of the last things a scout wants is to be in combat, but, even the most well thought out plan can fall apart. Kenna was taught to defend herself with sword or axe, and while not particularly skilled with a blade, she is a defensive fighter, often blocking, dodging, or parrying.
Hand to Hand - Novice: One of the most important skills of a Highland Scout is being able to fight with your hands. This is unfortunately one thing that Kenna never was able to get a handle on, and despite all of the training she had, she still could probably be beat in a brawling match by your grandmother.
Scouting - Competent : The key role of a Highland Scout was gathering information while remaining undetected, be it in the wild or in an urban setting. Staying in the shadows, and moving quickly and quietly as you watch what goes on around you. These are the skills Kenna learned during her time with them.
Athletic Ability - Apprentice: Running through the wilds, climbing up the rocky faces of mountains, and jumping from ledge to ledge. All of these things were day to day events for a Highland Scout.
Survival Skills -Novice: Living in the wilds for so many years, having to survive on what rations you have and hunt to supplement them, the Highland Scouts were taught how to live off the land and use it to their advantage in battle, be it to achieve victory or escape with their lives. Knowing how to catch and cook your own food, simple field medicine, and how to survive the cold mountain nights through improvised shelter or using the land itself.
Tracking - Novice:Any Highland Scout has the basic knowledge of tracking, though some are more proficient than others. Kenna was just beginning to learn the finer arts of tracking.
Do your character bring anything to the setting (part from clothes)?
- A round wooden shield with a white stag head painted on a field of dark green.
-A deer antler that has been carved into a crude dagger, in it are designs of a grand hunt.
Anything you'd like to add:
Field medicine in my terms are, make-shift casts enabling the person to walk to safety, bandaging, cleaning wounds. Just things to get people to people who actually know what they are doing.
