Felix is a fairly shy man, he prefers quite lonesomeness than that to the company of other, louder people. Though he isn't antisocial, he does tend to avoid public events, and other crowded areas. Despite his silent approach to life, Felix is a rather kind, friendly man.(That is, if you don't yell too much) He tends to be rather generous, both in knowledge and in material objects. Felix is also quite Modest with his craft, tending to think the things he makes are nothing special. He is also a Pacifist, rather from necessity than from anything else, Felix, being the small man that he is, wouldn't last very long in a fight, so he simply avoids the very thought of it altogether.

Biography –

Venia was a bustling port city, filled with the bustle of everyday port life. In this city, lived a cobbler named Stephen, and a hatter named Mable. These two had a son together, whom they named Felix. Now, Felix was a normal boy, happy as he could be, content with the life he was going to lead. His parents loved him dearly, and often spoiled the little boy with whatever they could provide. Felix, however, never asked for much, usually little more than peace and Quiet. Quiet, is what the little boy preferred. He loved to just sit in a small room and read, or make his own fun. This isn't to say, he was antisocial. Felix had no problem with the other children, other than the fact that they all seemed to be loud and obnoxious. Because of this, he didn’t always like it outside much either.
Throughout Felix's childhood, his family could never provide much. They lived a poor life, in a poor part of a rather rich city. He was Home schooled by his parents, with what little knowledge they had of anything besides their crafts. Luckily enough they knew enough to teach him to speak and write properly, and do a bit of math here and there. His trend of isolation continued with him through this time as well, preferring his room upstairs to the shop, where an occasional customer would come into the store, and make a ruckus about something or another.
When the time had come, at age 16, his father told him that he must a craft. It was not a very difficult decision, he knew he wanted to follow in his parent's footsteps, and do something he had been around his entire life, making shoes with his father, or hats with his mother. He loved both of his parents, and wanted to spend time with them equally so after a while, he finally decided to alternate careers. His parents figured that he should be able to, mostly because neither wanted to argue with the boy, but figured with enough time, he’d pick one or the other.

So it began, every other day Felix would work with his dad, and every day that wasn’t happening, he would work with his mother. Felix picked up on both skills fairly quickly and easily, as he had watched his parents do it from his earlier years. After roughly 3 years of uninterrupted practice of Hattery and Cobbling, Felix was by now fluent in the ways of the work. His family was in tip top shape, making a good living selling their various shoes and hats. However, the city began to enforce large tariffs on the imports of supplies that came into the city; to fund building defenses from the Civil War that was taking place outside of its walls. Imports that Felix and his family needed to continue barely scraping by.

As they paid the new, higher taxes, and as people found less and less need for newer shoes and hats, the family fell into poverty. Kicked out of their shop, with only a few of their personal belongings, they would now live in the gutter. However terrible it was, they were never lonely, the high taxes had driven many people bankrupt, and in the same position as they were. They lived like this for many years, begging for any little coin, scrap of cloth, or crumb of bread. Whenever they’d scrounge out an old piece of leather from the trash, or cloth from the gutter, Felix would try to make something with it, but it always failed, as the fabric was far too rotten or damaged to be made into anything suitable. Finally, the family decided to go back to their old home, and see if there was anything they could scavenge from it. It was abandoned, just as old and rickety as it was when they left it. No-one in their right mind would buy this place, especially not in this state of Venia’s economy. They made a plan to break in at night, and see if they couldn't take some of their old supplies back. That night, they did just that, broke the window with a stone, climbed in, and began to search for anything of value in the dusty shop.

However, as they did this, a passerby, one who owned the clothing shop across the street, and had managed to stay out of the same hole that Felix’s family had fallen into, saw this, and quickly ran to the nearest guard. The guard burst into the home, keen to stop the breaking-and-entering. Felix was upstairs when he heard the crash, and quickly hid in a dusty closet. His parents, however, weren’t so lucky. They were immediately taken by the guard, and when asked who else was in the building, to protect their son they answered no, and were taken to the prison. Felix waited in that closet for a long while, waiting, either for his parents to come, or the guard to come, and take him away. Neither did, and so he left the closet, realizing that his parents were nowhere to be found, he sat at the counter, weeping for a while, before picking himself up, and searching the house once more. Among a few other things, he found, after hours of searching, a small case hidden in a loose floorboard, something his parents weren’t able to take with them when they were kicked out. It had been placed there years before Felix was even born, a small amount of savings that had been forgotten, resting there all of this time.
Felix, realizing that his parents were taken; likely to rot in the prison, pondered on what he should do next. There was enough money in the small case for passage on a small ship in town. One that was on its way to the Forbidden land, and so he decided that he should start anew. He wished he could take his parents with him, but there was no way of getting them back. Venia had little tolerance for thieves, no matter the circumstance. Finally, Felix grabbed the case, and his small tool belt, and set off to start Anew in the forbidden land.

It is time, French... for feedback.
  • In regards to your personality traits, I’m afraid we do not accept a bullet list anymore. Try to expand your points and write a more complex paragraph or two describing his personality instead.
  • '...Because of this, he didn’t always like it outside much either.
When the time had come, at age 16,...
    '
That's quite a large gap with little detail on events between childhood and mid-teens. We need more detail of events between these two points. Did he attend a school and receive a formal education? What were his relations with friends and extended family? Factors like these give us a better indicator of how they helped Felix become the character he is.
  • 'He could either be a Cobbler, making shoes alongside his father, or a Hatter, and work with his mother to make marvelous hats for the people of Venia.'
Is there a particular reason why he could only choose one or the other? Please elaborate.
  • This MAY be an inconsistency, but I may also be nitpicking.
'Whenever they’d scrounge out an old piece of leather from the trash, or cloth from the gutter, Felix would try to make something with it, but it always failed.'
Earlier in the backstory he is described as being 'fluent in his trade', implying he had some skill. Please explain this point a little further.

As a side note, I apologise for taking so long with this round of feedback. A combination of little sleep and frustration in my household isn’t a good mix.

When you have addressed these points, bump the thread and we can continue.
