@3llie: *applause applause applause applause*

Someone gets it, said it, and I couldn't have said it better myself.

3llusive Wrote:Agreed. And I don't think it's fair to go to Mesalia and slap a "Medieval RP" sticker on it.

Finally someone has realized this, it's rather silly to claim this with all of the strangely steam-punk stuff, democracy and all sorts of other advanced stuff we had in the past.

3llusive Wrote:I would say it's more close to fantasy, except without the typical fantasy tropes like elves and all that other unneeded crap.

Fantasy, yes, awesome, that's what this server is really about, what it should be about. However, please don't call Elves "unneeded crap". You have your opinion, but please don't slander the topic. Some of us actually like settings with "Elves and other crap" in them.

3llusive Wrote:Mesalia as I see it, is whatever the players want it to be. If the majority of the server wants to include homophobic tendencies into some of the lore, that'll probably happen. If the opposite is true, then the opposite will be true.

I personally don't mind, people should be allowed to do whatever they want as long as it doesn't break any rules of our server.

However, this is as long as me and anyone else who doesn't want to play a character with homosexual orientation, don't get called Homophobes over OOC because our characters said a definite no to someone advancing on them.

Trust me, this has happened to me a few times before on other places I've been on. The guy went on for some time how he is a special snowflake with his sexual orientation, to then claim I'm a Homophobe "for not expanding my RP and keeping my mind open" when my character said no.

That's enough of a reason for me to flunk that sort of person on my small Ignore list, or even report them for Power-gaming to the admin. That behavior is bad, childish and it makes that person a hypocrite.

I'm saying yes for homosexual marriage and relationships, but don't make an OOC fuss if someone declines you because they have a different sexual orientation from you. It goes both ways, if a straight character played by a straight player gets declined because the other person has different sexual orientation, don't make it an OOC fuss, that's just awful.

Everyone should be allowed to do whatever they want with their character in terms of personality, and sexual orientation, as long as it doesn’t go against the rules and is not deemed completely ridiculous by the staff.

3llusive Wrote:Tl;dr - Mesalia is what we make it. Let's stop trying to genre-fy it and generalize it.

Well, a Genre of some sort would be good, because it means new players can look at it and decide if they want to join or not. The Genre should be just more specified, with a list of things that are and are not allowed maybe?

Anyway, this is just my two cents on the subject, feel free to disagree with me, it's no biggie.

Didn't mean to offend anyone with that, you have my apologies.

Obviously that's an issue with the player themselves being childish and insecure. Staff would handle any such instances, I'm sure. Personally, I'm straight and I'm somewhat uncomfortable with the prospect of role playing a character who is not.

I very seriously doubt anyone who doesn't have serious mental issues can find much fault with me for that. It simply doesn't make someone a homophobe to be uncomfortable with homosexuality from a personal sense. In the same way a homosexual would be uncomfortable with sexual advances from the opposite gender. I'm perfectly fine with whatever sexuality someone has, but simply put, I will stick to mine.

/shrug/ I simply mean that we shouldn't be trying to force it into a specific genre. Saying it can be called a fantasy or medieval server is one thing, but attempting to force the server to follow a set of 'guidelines' set by a genre is just fallacy, in my humble opinion.

Feel free to retort, no bad blood here really. I'm pretty sure I agree with you on everything here in one way or another, lol.

I need to say you just earned my respect, thank you for being polite. It's not often I meet such polite Forum attenders.

Yeap, yeap and yeap. I think the issue is the player using their orientation as a shield when they throw a hissy fit, which should be identified by the staff as an issue and thwarted.

Yeap, the idea is that I'm sticking to mine and everyone else can do what they want. That's the idea of sexual equality in my mind, nothing is enforced on anyone, from neither sides.

What I meant, is that for example:

- Homosexual marriages are allowed.
- Electricity has not yet been discovered.
- We use Runes/Redstone to power most things.
- Flying is not something that has been thought of yet.
- Magic does not exist.

I'm thinking more like information, informing the player, rather than limitations. In terms of Genre, I think "General Fantasy" would suit it, it's broad enough to cover a lot of things.

I'm not as much retorting, because that means opposing you in an argument. I'm thinking discussing is the better word, what could be or what can't, to set a thinking middle-ground.

And nope, no bad blood. You're more than a-okay in my eyes.

I see this as pretty much the final topic that we've brought up and haven't found some level of agreement on.

Frankly, I don't see a problem with looking at it that way. In my original post I was clarifying that I was just tired of seeing "That wouldn't happen in Medieval times" as a debate point. As I would see it, your answer would fix that problem without damaging the perspective of new prospective players' clarity on what the server is.

I was just sort of going off on a tangent in my last post, I suppose, because calling the server a Fantasy RP isn't really restrictive at all, considering everything from the Warcraft games, to Robert Jordan's 'Wheel of Time' book series is considered fantasy. And that range is more or less where the server falls in, I believe.
