Marriage Traditions
#1
So I've been wondering, how does marriage work in the world of Mesalia? Is it parallel to real life, as in the male proposes to the female by offering a ring? Or is there some other way? Or is it possible that marriage traditions vary from place to place, so more or less you just have to come up with it on your own?

On another note, is homosexuality marriage looked down upon? I know in real life during this time period it was, but I don't know if it is on this world.

Sorry that this just seems like I am streaming a bunch of questions, but I really don't know where to even start on the topic in all honestly.

Is it parallel to real life -- marriage traditions vary from place to place

You might have answered your own question there. :geek:

Hell if I know.. Rook just gave Ezri a ring and told her to marry him.

Spy and Zark was the same. He proposed and there was a wedding in a temple.

I'd say it is A LOT up to, per usual, the characters. All of it. I know that Zarkaylia had a wedding that had a lot of the traditional bits of modern weddings, yet there was no exchange of rings, matter of fact there was an exchange of blood (don't... ask why cause I don't know). Zarkaylia also would be slightly homophobic and find it incredibly awkward and weird.

Netha and Jolene just married. Just decided, there was no ceremony cause either there was no time or it was constantly forgotten. Netha would respect others' choice for lover but be awkward if it was directed at herself (and so far only think women can love other women, not applying it to men because RP is odd) and Jolene's bisexual.

It'd depend a lot more on the place, its culture and the persons I think than it'd depend on the time setting regarding this.

One of the main reasons that people don't want gays to marry is religious nonsense. I don't see anything in any mesalian religion yet that says any holy scriptures forbid such a thing.

In fact, fairly certain religion spawned marriage. So does it say anything in the religion more on the topic?

I don't see why gay marriage would be an issue because it's simply never mentioned in religion lore as far as I've heard. Could be wrong though.

The questions that should be asked is why does marriage even happen in rp on the server, how did it come to be, and why would gay marriage be an issue?
