No one says you have to read anything other than the rules, the lore, and the occasional announcement Demo XD
As for the cutie marks... I'm going with a stern 'no'. That's where it was for the previous generations, and from a design aspect the mark wouldn't look better anywhere else on the pony.
Plus, they're ponies. I think most of society has enough common sense to not get up in arms about pony rears. If they were human, it may be different (also, if they were human, design-wise there'd be better places).
Back on topic:
While I'll agree with Screem on some levels, I really don't think everything was building up to well... -this- moment. I mean, I love Twilight and this episode made me so bloody proud, but I don't think the goal was to I think it's more to do with just making an entertaining and worthwhile show.
