The idea of a ceremony to commemorate a union of two people predates our recorded history, and has most certainly been present across many different cultures. The idea that 'organised' religion spawned Marriage is unlikely, and false to a degree.

The main issue behind Homosexual Marriage I could see would be present in a Patriarchal society such as was mostly present in Medieval Europe. Often Men Married women because the father of the woman wished for status, money or power and so on, the other main focus of the marriage was children. Which of course wouldn't be possible through a Homosexual Marriage.

Some people may see it as unclean or against natures will, since no new life is brought forth by their union *shrug*

The rather odd last question that Demo put forward. "Why would marriage even happen on an RP server" has a..simple answer I guess?

We RP realistically (To a degree) and so we try to follow a generally realistic life for our characters, including love and relationships. Relationships go as such, crush, love, lover, marriage, 26000 children.

Although you can change the steps around, and of course the relationship may end in a ditch before any one of those events may occur. The same way death would go as, born, live, knife in chest, body in hole. Although the cause of death may not always be the same.

Anyway, why do we RP? I know I RP for fun, and to escape the dull existence of reality, and to experience and do that which I am not capable of, or doubt I will ever do, or just have yet to try. As such we do many things, I doubt I'll ever be married, after all, who would want to marry a Cerbidoof? So I RP it instead, and enjoy it.

I was on an iPod at the time.

That wasn't the question I put forth, or meant. I used different wording for "mesalia" because mesalia isn't a place or even the universe's name or whatever, it's just the server name. Not sure why, but that's how it is.

So not RP server, but mesalia lol.

It was THIS Rp server as in = mesalia. idk, I'm tired.

Without making generalizing statements about contemporary society or about historical attitudes, I think it should suffice to say that marriage traditions are culturally variable and that for the most part there's no precedent for a large stigma being attached to homosexual relationships or marriage in our setting.

I've had one character be engaged and another get married.

Snow and Darkus just mutually decided that they were married after a while. There was no wedding, and rings came months later. I can't speak for Darkus, but Snow was taught very little on the whole concept of a wedding (later, when Ezri asked her to marry her and Rook, hilarity ensued). She had assumed from previous observation that it was some form of mutual agreement involving rings. Some other couples adopted this style of marriage, because I'm sure you'll recognise the pattern here is "engagement is easy; weddings are hard".

Azmythera and Edward didn't do a grand proposal. I think Az at one point let it slip that she'd like to get married some day. It turned into a discussion, which then turned into an agreement. Azmythera knew what a wedding was, and she planned on having it. She made a wedding dress and she never got to use it because I had to quit Mesalia for a while. I like to think that even if I was there, they'd never marry because of IC drama getting in the way.

The religion lore isn't finalised yet, but I'm going to assume it will reflect the time period and the Rhise and Umbriae religions will have something which encourages heteronormative, if not homophobic behaviours. I'm not sure about the Mesalian religion. I think in the end, it depends a lot on the characters.
