Traitors to their nation, and outcasts from the common people, they were forced to try and survive - together, or to fragment and die alone. They found Garres’ Pass, and with their skill and former military prowess, took to ambushing caravans, travellers, and anyone trying to pass through to the rich northlands. And so far, testament of Koi’s capture, there didn’t seem to be any shortage of gold and goods to be stolen and traded with the small surrounding villages - and in return, the villages said nothing of the bandit’s presence to higher authorities. A win-win situation, as both grew rich and well taken care of.”

--There maybe some large settlements, maybe a dozen guards to one, but that's about it. There are no armies, military or wars in the forbidden lands.
